// THE PROBLEM

Product rankings stopped being honest.

Walk into any “best of” article in 2026 and the same playbook plays: a list of ten products picked for their affiliate commission rates, ranked by a reviewer who couldn’t tell you why one beat the other in a blind test, rewritten every quarter to refresh the publish date without a single line of new data.

The result is a category of writing that looks helpful and isn’t. Most “rankings” online are SEO inventory wearing editorial clothes - the order is whatever the writer felt that morning, and the writer is being paid by the brand that ends up at #1.

theRANKS was built to do the opposite. Algorithmic backbone, transparent math, one human owning every layer.

// THE MODEL

Five dimensions. One score.

Every product on theRANKS is scored across five independent dimensions - demand, trust, value, quality, durability - combined into a single composite from 0 to 100. The composite is the order. No editorial overrides. No “sponsored top pick.” The math is the rank.

  1. Step 01

    Gather

    Aggregated market and review data is pulled continuously from the platforms where products are actually sold and discussed. Never from a single source, never from a paid survey panel.

  2. Step 02

    Score

    Each dimension is computed independently and normalised against its category, so a $80 air fryer and a $400 espresso machine can both score on Value without one collapsing the other.

  3. Step 03

    Publish

    The five normalised dimensions combine into the composite. The composite is published. No manual reordering, no editorial overrides, no exceptions for the brand at #5.

theRANKS isn’t a content farm or a team of freelance reviewers. It’s a solo-founded operation - algorithmic infrastructure plus one editor with hands on every part of it.

Selects every product in every ranking. Tests the ones the data can’t settle. Picks the content angle, writes it, edits it, and rewrites it when it doesn’t land. Owns the methodology end to end - the weights, the data pipelines, the recency rules. The composite score is a number; the judgement under it is mine.

// THE COMMITMENTS

What we will not do.

These aren’t aspirations. They’re the floor. The day we break one of them, theRANKS becomes another site you can’t trust - so we don’t.

  1. We will not accept paid placement.

    No brand pays for position, score adjustment, inclusion, or removal. Affiliate commissions exist; they have zero influence on the rank.

  2. We will not manually override the composite.

    If the model puts a product at #1, that product is at #1 - even when we wish it weren’t.

  3. We will not claim hands-on testing on a product we did not test.

    The algorithmic composite is the universal backbone. Per-product hands-on is an additive input, only where it earns its place - and only with a verified per-item signal.

  4. We will not republish a ranking without recomputing the composite.

    Every published “Updated” date reflects a real recomputation against current market and review data - not a publish-date refresh for SEO.

  5. We will not run undisclosed commercial relationships with any product or manufacturer.

    The affiliate disclosure is one click from every page; the model is published with the weights; the ranking is auditable end-to-end.
